Movies are bigger than ever. The budget and the audiences are going through billions of dollars every year. I would like to quote “Brad Fox” who did calculations as follows:
Given all that it\’s safe to assume that the total production expenses of \”Hollywood\” in 2014 was probably somewhere around $16.62B worldwide.
Of course, it would be easy to say: “Well, why isn’t some of this money spent on cancer research?” or similarly more important things. And that question is valid, as there are much more useful things than that sort of money could do a great good, but the companies investing on films have the right to invest their money in to whatever they see profitable and useful to them. In a grander scheme of things, us humans would benefit much more in targeting the resources to evolvement of humans and not on unnecessary pleasure activities.
This line of thinking could be taken to extremes, but in my opinion, there should be a limit where a portion of the money should be going to charities or other more useful places. If you take a percentage of the mentioned $16.62B and give to feed the homeless, we wouldn’t have an issue of homeless starvation.
The reason why I wanted to point out the movie industry is because it’s a good example of an activity that is not really needed, as a person would live perfectly fine without it. Again, this sort of reasoning could be taken to extremes: a traditional list is food, shelter and clothing. This is usually the time the conversation shows that we in the more developed parts of the world live in abundance, while people in many many parts of the world live in poverty or below poverty line. While this is true of course, the issue what I’m trying to point out is, that there is food, shelter and clothing to go around, BUT we as humans aren’t good at sharing the wealth.
It seems that we are perfectly fine with idiot celebrities making money of idiotic Instagram posts, while there are people with nothing at all. It’s a cliché, I know, but as we are closing into the Holiday Season once again, I would like people (me included) to see what we already have and what you could do for your fellow humans.
